When a double-pane window starts fogging from the inside, the seal between the two panes has failed and moisture has gotten between them. The frame, sash, and hardware are usually still perfectly good — only the glass unit (the IGU) needs to come out. Most other companies will quote a full window replacement, because it is more profitable. We do not. We measure the failed IGU, fabricate a matching insulated glass unit in our Brooklyn shop, and swap it into the existing sash — usually within the same week, at roughly a third the cost of a new window. The new IGU comes with a fresh warranty against seal failure. We handle this work routinely across Manhattan coops, Brooklyn brownstones, and outer-borough rentals.

  • Why do my windows fog on the inside?

    A double-pane window has two panes of glass with an argon-filled space between them, sealed at the perimeter. When the seal fails (usually after 10–20 years), moisture leaks in and condenses between the panes. The fog is a sign of seal failure — the window itself is fine, but the glass unit needs to be replaced.

  • Can you fix it without replacing the whole window?

    Yes — that is exactly what we do. We remove just the failed insulated glass unit (IGU) from your existing sash, fabricate a matching new unit, and install it. The frame, sash, hardware, and trim all stay in place.

  • How fast can you do it?

    Measurement takes about 20 minutes. We then fabricate the new IGU in our Brooklyn shop within 5–7 business days, and the on-site install takes about 30 minutes per window.

  • How much does it cost vs full window replacement?

    IGU swaps run roughly 30–40 % of the cost of a comparable full window replacement. Exact pricing depends on size, thickness, and any specialty coatings — we quote at the estimate.

  • Do you need to remove the sash?

    For most windows, no — we replace the IGU with the sash in place. For some casement and tilt-and-turn assemblies the sash comes out for easier access, then goes right back.
